The next thing you should know after looking at all the iPhones launched earlier in the timeline that Apple never launched an entirely new iPhone immediately after a new generation was introduced. Instead they improvised an existing model and then re launched it. If you don’t believe me then go back and look at the iPhone timeline! So, there was no point in expecting an iPhone 5.

So, you reckon everyone’s disappointed with the iPhone 4S? Really? If that’s the case then look at the iPhone 4S preorders record! The number of  iPhone 4S preorders hit the mark of 200,000 on the very first day of opening preorders.

My next question to you, “What features did you actually expect in the iPhone 5?” Considering this point and all the rumors, we saw every iPhone 5 expected feature in the iPhone 4S expect the big screen and the slim new makeover.

The iPhone 4S is set to hit all the major stores in UK including Vodafone, Three Mobile, Orange, and O2 on the 14th of October.

If you want to buy the iPhone from the Apple store the following are the costs for different models:

iPhone 4S- £499.00

iPhone 4 16GB- Same price

iPhone 4 8GB – £429.00

Why does this happen? How to view the normal version (non- mobile)?

Whenever you view a website on your iPhone or iPad, the website detects the device through which the website is accessed and hence you get to see a mobile version of the website!

The first solution would be; searching for a desktop version, normal version or non- mobile version link on the website. If it doesn’t have then you need to make the website believe that you are accessing it from a computer and not a mobile phone. For this purpose, you need to use an alternative browser and not Safari! I would recommend using iCab mobile or Atomic browser. You can find these in App store. iCab mobile is priced at GBP 1.49. However, Atomic Lite is free.

Safari browser on the iPhone and iPad is undoubtedly user friendly and fast but lacks many features. I feel it’s far too simple and lacks many important features. For this very purpose I had couple of browsers installed on my iPhone 4. I discovered that iCab mobile browser is capable of opening the normal version of any website even though there is not option on the webpage to display a normal version.

So, what’s the solution? Is it possible to downgrade?

Yes, it is! This tutorial works for both iPad as well as iPhone users. Here’s how you can downgrade and install the previous version of Facebook.

STEP 1: Delete the application
1. Delete the Facebook application on your device.
2. Go to iTunes on your computer, click on ‘Applications’ on the left hand pane.
3. Search for ‘Facebook’, right click and delete it.

STEP 2: Install an older version of Facebook (3.4.4)
1. Download Facebook v3.4.4 from here.
2. Double click on the app to add it to your iTunes library.
3. Sync your device to install it.

STEP 3 (For iPad users only): Install Faceforward
iPad users need to follow this step to get the iPad compatible version of Facebook. You need to have your iPad jailbroken in order to try this.

1. Go to Cydia andsearch for ‘Faceforward’ and install it by clicking on the ‘install’ button on the top right hand corner.
2. Click on ‘Reboot Device’ when prompted.
3. After reboot, open Facebook app. Voila! You should now have an iPad compatible version of Facebook app!

Well, if these simple features were integrated, the SMS app would be amazing. I personally don’t like to unlock and then enter into the app to read the message. I was frustrated with this and decided to look out for something that can fix my problem and guess what? I came across ‘Quick Reply for SMS’ on Cydia.

With Quick Reply for SMS, you can view and reply the message from home screen without sliding to unlock. Also, if you are on the home screen and if a message is received, it will show you the person’s image if you have set in the contacts thus making it easily identifiable. Moreover, if you don’t want to view or reply, you can simply click on the ‘close’ button to close the dialogue box.

This tweak is absolutely free. However, to install it, your device needs to be jailbroken as you need to download it from Cydia. Just search for ‘Quick Reply for SMS’ and you should get it.

Points before you move further:
1. Your device should be jailbroken.
2. You need to have Winterboard and Lockscreen Clock Hide installed via Cydia. Lockscreen Clock Hide disables the clock on the lockscreen.
3. You need to have iPhone Explorer installed on your computer to browse files and folders on your iPhone.

iPhone 4 Lockscreens

Typophone 4 Lockscreen
The Typophone 4 lockscreen displays time and date in large fonts. Also, the traditional lock slider has been replaced with a simple yet attractive one. You can download the theme from Cydia and activate it via Winterboard.

Frost Lockscreen

Sopa Lockscreen
Sopa Lockscreen features a round clock which is something different from the other ones. Hope you like it.

LS Nimbus Lockscreen
Download the theme from here and unzip it on your desktop.
Open the file “LockBackground.html” with notepad. Search for “var locale” and change the place name according to your choice. For instance, you’re in London, just type “London, United Kingdom”. This will display the weather information from the location you mentioned. Save the file and exit.
Now, open iPhone explorer and drag the entire extracted folder into “Root/Library/Themes”.
Disconnect the phone once done, Launch Winterboard on your phone and activate the theme.

Slanting Lockscreen
This one’s unique and attractive! It also displays the weather condition. Before you download the theme from Cydia, you need to install “file:// for MobileSafari” from Cydia. Next, install the theme via Cydia. Now, go to Safari and enter the following path:
file:///Library/Themes/SlantedLock.theme/config.html
Configure the settings according to your choice, exit Safari and then activate the theme in Winterboard.

Uncluttered HD
For this theme you also need to install Unlock Killer

LS Angelic
For installation, read installation instructions inside the folder after extracting it. It’s similar to the previous ones.

Cowon Lockscreen
There’s a version for the iPad as well. Have a look at the developers page.

Android Lockscreen
You can get it from Cydia and then activate it in Winterboard.

Simplicity
The slider, wallpaper and the fonts are not included in the theme. You can get a similar slider from Cydia. Search for “Clear Lockscreen iOS 4″ (ModMyi repo).

LS Colour Stripes
There are two custom sliders available with this theme- tap to unlock and slide to unlock.

I like this theme but the heart looks more like a ladybug.

PS: I’ll add some more lockscreens as I find them. If you have any problems with installation, feel free to post a comment. I’ll test it on my iPhone 4 and check it out.

On further investigation I found out these websites are fake and you need to stay away from them. Don’t throw your $30 for some rubbish. The basebands 4.10.01, 2.10.04 and 3.10.01 are unlockable only with Gevey SIMs and not any other software. You may come across softwares like Fastra1n and Fastsn0w that claim to unlock and jailbreak any iOS version and basebands but they are fake! Softwares like Ultrasn0w are not capable of unlocking the following basebands.

Yes! If you want to find out whether these softwares are legitimate then go to Scambook.com and search for the software. You’ll be astounded! Here are some of the reviews by users for Theunlockiphone4.com (now it is being redirected to iphoneunlocking.com)

There are other similar sites that you should aware of. They include: unlock-the-iphone.com and fastunlockiphone.com.
When I visited unlock-the-iphone.com, I tried using the live chat box to chat with customer care which I thought was real. It was hilarious! It turned out to be a bot sending some random messages!

Fastunlockiphone.com uses ultrasn0w and redsn0w. The only difference is the UI is different. If you try to unlock those basebands that are not supported by Unltrasn0w then a box will popup saying, “Current Modem Firmware Version Not Supported”. But, the developers are smart! You also get a message stating that iOS 4.3.5 will be unlocked soon! Did you come across any other websites like these? Feel free to mention in the comments, so that others don’t fall prey to such scams!

Start your iPhone and go to Settings.

Click on General and then choose About.

Now, you should be able to see the entire space usage. You can also see the number of songs, videos, applications and photos on the phone.

If you are interested in knowing how much space each item has consumed then you may connect it to computer and start iTunes. On the left hand side choose your phone and on the bottom of iTunes, you should see the space usage.

What if you could close all the apps in one click or tap?

You don’t need to use RemoveBG with SBSettings button anymore to get rid of all the apps. There’s a better alternative known as KillBackgroundapps. It allows you to close all apps running in the background with one single click.

There is a small red button at the bottom right corner of the screen that allows you to terminate all running apps. Ever since I got this app, I have saved time. I don’t have to close more than 20 apps running in the background separately! If you are interested in getting this, you can download it for free on Cydia.

Well, if you too experienced the same problem in Windows 7 then here’s what I did. This fix applies for all OS from 4.X.X.

How to Fix 3194 and 1013 iTunes Error for iPhone 4 in Windows 7

3194 iTunes Error:
Hold both the power and home button simultaneously and connect the cable to your computer. Now, when you try restoring the same firmware you might get a 3194 error.

FIX 1:

For this issue quit iTunes and navigate to the following path
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with notepad with administrative privileges and all the lines ending with “gs.apple.com”
Add the following line and save the file:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Start iTunes and restore your phone by holding shift and clicking on the restore button. Choose the firmware and restore. That’s it your phone should now be fixed.

FIX 2:
Download TinyUmbrella for Windows.

Click on the Advanced tab and uncheck the option “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”.
Apply changes and restart your computer.
Now restore the firmware, this should work out.

1013 iTunes Error:

But, sometimes while restoring you may receive the 1013 error. You get this error usually after the firmware has been flashed. So, this is not a major problem. However, you can sort this out by locating the hosts file and deleting all the lines with gs.apple.com and saving the file. If the restore fails again and you receive the 1013 error then just ignore it and start TinyUmbrella. Select your device and exit recovery. Now, after you exit recovery, your phone should boot successfully. However, there are instances where the phone may not boot. Don’t worry you have not bricked your phone! You can fix this by jailbreaking it. Here’s how you do it:

If you are using Redsn0w to jailbreak your device then follow the steps and jailbreak the device (download Redsn0w). While jailbreaking the device may be stuck on ‘installing bundles’, leave it like that for 10-20 minutes. Once, it is done it will be done! Now, even after all this if you are still experiencing the device going into recovery mode and not booting then you need to kick it off from the recovery mode for one last time. Use TinyUmbrella to do so. Voila! After all this long process you should have your phone fixed. If you still have doubts and experience any problems then feel free to ask here.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone 4, you can use a tool known as UndeleteSMS that can be downloaded via Cydia. It scans the history for deleted records and it attempts to recover them. The recovered iPhone text messages are displayed in plain text. This is a pretty handy tool but it only recovers deleted data which hasn’t been overwritten by new data. If you use the app on a regular basis you don’t need to wait till the last minute until you are helpless as the data is overwritten. You can purchase UndeleteSMS from the Cydia store for $6.99, under the BigBoss repository.

If you already have a SIM card that you cut into a micro SIM then you might be wondering how you can use it on any other phone. Well, there is a simple solution. Just like the popularity of cutters for cutting SIM cards, adapters for micro SIM cards are widely available in the market. These adapters allow you to place the micro SIM card in them and insert in any phone. This simply means that if you cut a SIM into a Micro SIM you can still use it in other phones.

Some of the SIM cutters on Amazon and eBay are sold along with adapters (like the one above) so that you can use them in any other phone apart from the iPhone 4. You can grab one of these cutter along with adapters for around 5 pounds.

Making a Micro SIM or a mini SIM card out of the normal SIM:

The iPhone 4 features a SIM card slot that only allows you to insert a micro SIM card which simply means that you cannot insert a normal sized SIM card into the slot. But, if you cut the normal SIM card into a Micro SIM then you can use it. Now, you might be wondering if this is complicated. The answer is No! Anyone can cut a normal SIM into a micro SIM card with ease. All you need to do is get a SIM card cutter and cut the SIM into a mini card. With the release of iPhone 4 into the market, the SIM card cutters have become really popular. You can find one on Amazon or eBay with ease if you search for ‘sim card cutter’.

But, before you can the SIM card make sure you make a note of the SIM card code that is behind the SIM as shown above. You may require this code in future.

Using Dual SIM cards in iPhone 4:

Another way to use a normal SIM card is by using a dual SIM adapter for iPhone 4. The dual SIM card adapter allows you to use a normal SIM card along with the Micro SIM. This method is a little bit expensive costing you around £20 compared to a simple cutter. But, it allows you to use dual SIMs which is certainly great.

You need to plant a thin strip over the micro SIM which goes in the tray and on the other end of the strip you can insert a normal SIM card. The strip with the normal SIM card can be folded backwards and kept safely in a second case. If you are interested in getting on you can grab one from here.
