How to get via iPhone Status on Facebook

It’s been a few months since you noticed ‘via iPhone’ below someone’s status message in Facebook. Even though you own an iPhone and you update the status from there, you won’t be able to see ‘via iPhone’ below the status message. This is simply because Facebook has stopped displaying the name of the device below the status message. However, if you are using a Blackberry, you’ll still see ‘via blackberry’ below your status. Now, that’s something unfair and not acceptable! Well, if you are still interested in getting the ‘via iPhone’ so that can stand up and proudly say indirectly that you own an iPhone, you can still do it! Here’s how you do it:

Using viaiphonelima App
Viaiphonelima is an app on Facebook that allows you to get the ‘via whatever!’ below your status message. It not only includes ‘via iPhone’ but several other options like iPad, iPhone 5, Calculator, Blackberry, etc.

To update a status, just go to viaiphonelima app and update your status by entering it in the box. Once done, click on ‘update status’. Easy, isn’t it?

Once your status is entered, it should look like above on your wall.

Android users can get it too!
If you’re using Android, install Status Via from Android Market. This app allows you to do the same job as the above FB app. The interesting thing about this app is that you can enter via anything! This is fun!

Orkut and Google Plus Comparison. Did Google Plus Interface Evolve from Orkut?

Few years ago when it came to social networking in India and Brazil, you could hear everyone saying “Orkut!” Well, things have changed now. Facebook is the king of social networking in almost every country. Even Brazilians and Indians have started using Facebook now due to which Orkut users are dropping day by day. But, Google has not yet lost it completely when it comes to social networking. Although, Google failed at many instances when social networking was taken into consideration, Google Plus seems to be promising, interesting and not boring or hard to use like its previous social networking products like FriendConnect, Google Wave or Google Buzz which were big failures. Facebook should watch out for their new competitor Google Plus and not take it for granted.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon the word ‘Orkut’ when I was searching for something over the web. This tempted me to visit Orkut and have a sneak into its features and interface. It’s been four years since I stopped using Orkut and moved to Facebook. To be honest I was pretty impressed with the way Orkut has changed. They have finally got rid of all those colourful fonts and images. There is much more uniformity now. However, it cannot be compared to Facebook which seems to be much more organized and clear. On further digging into its features, I somehow felt that some of the Google Plus interface has evolved from Okrut. I guess you will flame me for this. So, I decided to point out some comparisons.

Navigation bars on top
As you can see in the above images, there are two bars placed almost the same way as in Orkut. The use of text has been minimized in the navigation bars in Google Plus. Instead of the email ID, the name is shown on the right hand side and a drop down menu is used with a gear icon.

The second bar in Google Plus has exactly the same placement as in Orkut, i.e; the logo, navigation and the search bar. Here the only difference is that Google Plus features pictured buttons navigation whereas Orkut has a traditional navigation bar. However, Google has introduced new features like Circles and Games and placed them here.

Left hand side column

Have a closer look at the left hand side column. Don’t you think it’s pretty much the same thing as Orkut? However, there are slight modifications. The profile picture size has been minimized; it’s more like an icon now in Google Plus. The ‘all updates’ and ‘my updates’ have been replaced by the word ‘stream’. The chat function is still placed on the left hand side. When you click on a friend, his/her chat box appears on the right hand side of your screen just like Orkut.

Moving on to the right column, the first thing you’ll notice is that the column has been cut down to almost half its size. Friends are still presented in the right hand side column but with smaller icons thus making the layout clear. One weird change to be noted is the ‘send invitations’ box being moved from left hand side to right hand size with a nice looking email icon.

The Middle column
The middle column has been widened by reducing the space in the right hand side column as mentioned earlier. The middle column’s primary function is to show news feed (now known as stream) just like Orkut. Also, if you observe carefully, the presentation of feeds is almost like Orkut. The profile picture size and placement is followed by name, date and sharing details exactly like Orkut. To be honest, the middle column hasn’t innovated much! ‘Reply’ has been replaced by ‘Comment’, ‘Like’ by ‘+1’ and the only extra option you can see is ‘share’.

Other points
If the background was colourful and the columns were clearly defined and separated just like Orkut, you would definitely say, “Is this Orkut?”

So what’s Google + when compared to Orkut and Facebook?

Google learned from its mistakes and created an improvised version of Orkut with enhanced and innovative features and named it Google Plus. Google had ample of time to look into what Facebook is doing and what it is performing like. They used some of the features or added some new features which Facebook did not have and presented it in Google Plus. So, why did Google create a completely new social network and not modify Orkut? The answer is simple; Google did not want to continue with something which started receiving bad feedback and was interested to start off new. Moreover, users from Orkut had already moved to Facebook which was a major setback.

Here’s an Orkut new features video that I saw while visiting Orkut. If you carefully observe the video, the layout does not match the layout which is used at present. This video was made more than a year ago. So, I wonder if Orkut was used by Google as a testing platform for Google Plus or the features have not yet been introduced in Orkut?

Google Plus may look similar but is definitely much more powerful than Orkut and is different from Facebook. Circles and Hangouts are two interesting features in Google Plus that make it better than Facebook. Google Plus is still growing and will take some time to earn peoples admiration. In the near future, if new features like apps, fan pages, etc are introduced, it might get better response from users.

Fastsn0w Unlock for 4.10.01, 2.10.04 and 3.10.01 basebands Fake, Be Careful

We are all aware that there is no unlock for the basebands 4.10.01, 2.10.04 and 3.10.01. But, I have seen a few sites popping up with their unlock softwares for $30 that claim to unlock all the basebands which include 4.10.01, 2.10.04 and 3.10.01. This raised a question in my mind, “Is this for real?” If it is I can unlock my iPhone 4 with 4.10.01 baseband.

On further investigation I found out these websites are fake and you need to stay away from them. Don’t throw your $30 for some rubbish. The basebands 4.10.01, 2.10.04 and 3.10.01 are unlockable only with Gevey SIMs and not any other software. You may come across softwares like Fastra1n and Fastsn0w that claim to unlock and jailbreak any iOS version and basebands but they are fake! Softwares like Ultrasn0w are not capable of unlocking the following basebands.

When I visited unlock-the-iphone.com, I tried using the live chat box to chat with customer care which I thought was real. It was hilarious! It turned out to be a bot sending some random messages!

Fastunlockiphone.com uses ultrasn0w and redsn0w. The only difference is the UI is different. If you try to unlock those basebands that are not supported by Unltrasn0w then a box will popup saying, “Current Modem Firmware Version Not Supported”. But, the developers are smart! Should I allow my Children to Use Facebook?

In this modern internet-savvy world, the word Facebook has haunted the minds of many people including children. According to Facebook registration requirements, you are not supposed to register on Facebook until you are 18 year of age. But, do children really understand this? There are so many users who are in their teens but have not yet turned 18 and are using Facebook. Children often come to their parents and ask, “Dad, can I register on Facebook? My friend is there too!” This raises a question in parents mind, “Should I allow my Children to Use Facebook?”

The founder of Facebook- Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that eventually he would like to see Facebook lobby for changes in COPPA or otherwise figure out how to let kids under 13 register and use Facebook more importantly in compliance with the law. Well, as usual every coin has two sides. So, let’s speak about the plus points and negatives.

Why Facebook is Good?
Facebook is good when it comes to networking. This will help children to build a good friend circle and keep in touch with each other. Taking it in a positive way, children can work and study together online. Giving off a certain time towards social networking is essential. This way the kid will not be timid and an introvert as it grows up.

Better relationships can be maintained with family members. Nowadays, children often do not want to visit relatives and keep relationships. Parents can toggle the privacy settings and set it to high so that the pictures, status messages and the profile are not public. This way you can limit unknown users sneaking into children’s profile.

Limit the use of applications
Make sure that children are not using too many applications. And, the ones that are used are safe. This way you can avoid other people phishing children’s information and also protect them from those who have dirty plans in mind.

Facebook has its own pros and cons. But, setting out boundaries for children is essential. Having a good conversation with children and stating the good and the bad would be good. Understanding the child’s attitude you can decide if they are worthy enough to use it or not.

Apple keeps introducing new products every now and then. The best example is the iPhone. It has already released four iPhone’s in the past four years and is going to release a new one this year. Facebook doesn’t show Feeds from All Friends and Pages

If you’re a regular Facebook user, you might have noticed that the new interface doesn’t show feeds from all friends and pages instead it shows feeds from “friends and pages you interact with the most”. Due to this default setting you will miss a lot of updates from your other friends. You can change this setting by doing the following:

Go to Facebook homepage. Right in the middle next to News Feed, click on Most recent and then Choose ‘Edit Options’.

Under Edit your news feed settings, click on the option ‘Show posts from’.

Select the option ‘All of your friends and pages’.

Click ‘Save’.

That’s it! You should now be able to see feeds from all your friends and pages.

How to Find out if Someone is Logging into your Facebook Account

Facebook is one of the safest social networking websites at present when we compare to others like Orkut and so on. But, things may change anytime, you never know! Well, Facebook has a good privacy setting that lets you know if someone logged into your account. Let’s have a look at how you can make good use of it:

How to Find out if Someone is Logging into your Facebook Account

Firstly, log into your account and navigate to ‘Settings’.

Next, in the Settings tab, look for the option- ‘Account Security’ option and click on ‘Change’. Click ‘Yes’ and then click on Submit.

Once done, log out of your account and log back in.

Next, when you log in again, ‘Register this computer’ notification, will popup.

Type in a computer name and select Facebook should remember this computer or not. If it’s your own computer, you should let Facebook remember it as you need not register it every time you login from this computer. But, if you’re logging in using a public computer then leave it unchecked. If you log in from this particular computer again then you need to register the computer every time you attempt a login.

So, the question is how does this privacy setting work? Well, it’s pretty simple! After you have logged into Facebook from your computer, all the computers that are logged into your account will be logged out automatically. But, it won’t log out those computers that you have registered. This helps to identify unauthorised logins. Facebook sends notifications on your email or mobile phone as well. In addition to this, when someone tries to disable unauthorised logins setting, security questions will be asked.
