You might have seen several games nowadays use the Games for Windows Live platform. Well, it is nice when you consider the ability to play games online with others but at the same time it seems to be a bit complicating when errors pop up which may turn out quite frustrating at times. By errors I mean both errors in the desktop client as well as in game. If you’re having problems starting the GFWL desktop client then here’s what you should do:

Solution 1: Try signing into Windows Live Messenger
This idea may sound absurd but it did work for me. Install Windows Live messenger if you haven’t already. Try signing in with your ID and then start Games for Windows Live client. This time you may be lucky enough to start the client. If you get any error message, paste it in the comments.

Solution 2: Install Microsoft .NET Framework 4
There may be a problem with the .NET Framework installed due to which the program is refusing to start. Use the .NET framework removal tool to completely remove the .NET framework installed. Once done reboot your computer and download the latest version of net framework from here and install it.

Solution 3: Reinstalling the client
The last thing you can do is reinstall the client. You may also consider clearing all the registry entries relating to the program. You can do this with a registry cleaning program like tune up utilities. Once you have uninstalled the program, restart the computer, download the latest version from here and install it. Try starting the program now and see if it works.
These are just some basic fixes; if you are having problems with GFWL login in game then you may consider looking at the GFWL fix article.

GTA IV has always been subject to technical problems ever since its launch. Everyone who purchased the game was satisfied with the game play but experienced issues with game stability and performance. Some of us were also unhappy about the fact that GTA IV did not support Anti-aliasing (FSAA).

Well, I came across a thread on xtremesystems that allows you to enable FXAA in GTA IV and several other games like Mafia II, World of Tanks, Deadspace, Shift 2, etc. It’s a small patch that allows you to play games with FXAA. It supports three DirectX platforms- DX 9, DX 10, DX 11. However, not all games may be supported.

Before using the patch- GTA IV without AA

After using patch- GTA IV with FXAA

How to install the patch to enable FXAA in games?
For a DirectX 9 game, copy all the files from d3d9 directory into the directory containing the game executable.
For a DirectX 10/11, copy all the files from the d3d10 directory into the directory containing the game executable.

Love to play horror games online? Well, I don’t really like horror games, but my cousin simply loves them. I have seen him playing some horror games. Hotel 626 is one of his favorite. So, here are some scary online horror games for you.

Hotel626:

You can play this game only between 6PM and 6AM. Why’s that? It’s simply because the hotel is open only during that time. But, you can change your computers clock and play it. Well, the story begins like this. You have just checked into a haunted hotel. You wake up hearing some strange noises. You dash out of the door into the hallway and that is when the game starts. The game environment, the sound and lightening is really scary. You gotta check it out for yourself.

Do You Have a Grudge?

It’s a pretty short online horror game. I suggest you to play this game with your headphones on. You can actually feel as if you’re in the game. It’s based on a Japanese thriller- Do You Have a Grudge. And, hence it features visual excerpts from the movie, including the exact haunted house settings and scary characters. Be careful while getting your laundry, answering a phone call or opening the refrigerator, you may encounter some spooky guests.

The House

The House game doesn’t have any objectives. It’s just a 15-minute game that is solely developed to scare the daylights out of you. The spooky environments, visuals and eerie sounds may remind you of any old haunted house movie. Well, regarding the game; there are five rooms to explore. You can click on different objects in each room. You’ll encounter some really horrific scenes, which are absolutely not recommended for the weak heart. As you progress through the game you’ll known the mystery behind a family’s suicide. Each room will reveal the story behind the suicide. The final room, being the scariest of all, completes the story. But, I tell you again! If you are weak hearted please don’t go to try this.

I’ll add some more games to this list if I come across them. So keep checking this page. Hope you liked the above games. Also, feel free to post your favorite online horror games.

I came across a similar game but it’s in 2D and is just 6mb in size! The interesting part about this game is that you can even play multiplayer in it. Now ain’t that amazing?

Have a look at the above screenshot, that’s how the game looks. Well, it may look pretty ancient but nevertheless it’s a classic game which is light on resources. The multiplayer mode is free and allows up to 6 players at a time.

GTA IV is one of the best multiplayer games available at present. I play almost every day on my pc. But the PC version of the game is more prone to cheaters. These cheaters pop in and ruin the whole gaming fun. Recently a cheater came in and started hacking, he increased the cash to about $5000000. This was ridiculous as the game changed and it was team deathmatch and there was no way that the other team could make it on top. Using the voting system is a waste of time, the hackers don’t even get kicked. So, to get rid of such cheaters there’s only one way. It’s by using the net kicker. Let’s speak more on it.

The Netkicker is a GTA IV pc mod which allows the creator of the server of a multiplayer game to instantly kick cheaters. You don’t need to worry about voting for kicks. I came across this tool in gta forums.

Using this tool:
Download Netkicker from below and copy it to the GTA folder.

Start the game and press Alt+F12 in the game to activate it. Then on the left hand side of the screen the list of players, to move to next player scroll with your mouse and when you find the culprit kick him instantly. To exit menu press F12.

NOTE: You need to have 1.0.4 patch installed.

This mod is a must for all multiplayer server creators on GTA IV. Together we all can get rid of cheaters and enjoy a good gaming experience.

Counter Strike has been one of my top favorites for a long time. It is the first game that I played online and on LAN in cyber. It’s very entertaining but quite addictive too. I have tried different versions of Counter Strike which include Counter Strike Source and Counter Strike Condition Zero. Well I don’t think I need to give a detailed description about this game, most of you gaming enthusiasts know about it really well.

For all those who haven’t tried CS yet have a good chance to try it out as the full version is available for download on Softpedia. As this game is from Steam you need to use the GCFScape utility designed by Steam for users to extract GCF files in order to play the game locally.

Installing CS 1.6:
Firstly, download Counter Strike 1.6 from here
Download GCF Scape utility
Extract the GCF files using GCF Scape
Run the Counter strike exe files

Nowadays there are a lot of new multiplayer games that use Games For Windows Live. Some of the games that include GFWL are GTA IV, Fallout 3, DoW2, etc. GFWL is a great way to connect with your friends online and play a good multiplayer game. But if you’re using a router then you may experience some problems which will not allow you to login. I was previously using an ordinary modem and it worked great. But after I got a new router I experienced login issues, I wasn’t able to log into my GFWL account. This was really annoying as I had purchased GTA IV mainly for online play.

I tried different things to fix the problem like uninstalling the game, resetting router, uninstalling kaspersky, etc but none of them worked. I even posted on GFWL forums and they said it was a router issue. I got fed up and reinstalled Vista and installed the game without installing any other softwares and to my surprise GFWL worked perfectly and I was able to play a multiplayer game. Then later again something went wrong and I wasn’t able to play. So here’s what I tired which fixed my problem.

Gaming desktops are nice, but as hardware technology increases, so does portability. No longer do you have to be tied to a desktop system to play your favorite games-in fact, there are gaming laptops available now that are equal to similar desktop systems in power (but not price). Whether you’re looking for a desktop replacement gaming laptop or a portable system for those time’s you’re away from home, you’re sure to find a laptop on the list below to meet your needs.

Maingear eX-L – Starting at $2100

The Maingear eX-L is currently one of the most coveted gaming laptops available, and boasts a large fanbase. This mega-laptop may have a large price tag, but it’s got the specs to match; any serious gamer will itch to get their hands on this system.

This laptop has a starting price of $2100. After configuring it to meet my needs, however, the price jumped to a high $3600. This was after adding an extra 360GB 7200rpm hard drive, increasing the ATI Mobility Radeon to a Dual 512MB Crossfire X, switching the original Core 2 Duo P8400 to a powerful Core 2 Extreme X9100 REDLINE, and bumping the RAM to 4GB from 2GB. If those specs don’t have you drooling, just remember you also get an HD 17″ display, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11n, integrated Gigabit Network card, an 8x layer burner, and Internal HD audio with surround sound, all wrapped in an attractive, sleep frame. If you’re willing to pay more, they’ll throw in a backlit keyboard and and high-quality headphones, too.

This laptop is a desktop replacement system.

Alienware Area-51 m15x – Starting at $1099

If you’ve spent any time in the gaming sphere, you’ve likely heard of the Area-51 m15x (and it’s big brother, the m17). That’s because this laptop is a bundle of gaming goodness in a low-priced budge range.

The m15x features a 2-megapixel webcam, 15″ LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA), Clearview LCD technology, support for 1200p/720p TV signals, a touch activated battery, optical drive, 7.1 and 5.1 8-channel HD audio, stereo speakers, 3 high speed USB 2.0 ports, express card slot, 7-in-1 card reader, up to 8GB of RAM, 2 dedicated memory slots, Core 2 Extreme Processor, 32-bit or 64-bit, up to 512MB NVIDIA Quadro FX 3600M with the ability to switch between high-end and integrated graphics, HDMI, up to a dual-layer 2x Blu-Ray DVD/CD burner, and more.

Rock Xtreme SL8 – Starting at $4000 USD

This notebook comes in at a very hefty price, not due to some magical features but instead due to that fact it’s original price is in Euro. For that reason, this laptop is best left for those situated in Europe, unless you really want ‘the fastest laptop in the world’–at least according to the Rock Direct website.

The SL8 took top rank in the mobile performance benchmarking, and packs four Intel Core 2 processors, up to two NVIDIA 9800M GX SLi graphics cards, three 7200rpm SATA HDDs, a 17″ WUXGA TFT display, optional Blu-Ray drive, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, and Express Card slot, surround sound with four (4!) speakers at 7.1), s-video/DVi/VGA, four USB ports, webcam with video recording support, TV tuner (optional), and more.

HP Pavilion HDX Dragon – Starting at $2999

Who knew that HP had a laptop that could stand up to the big gaming brandnames? The Dragon HDX gives a whole new meaning to ‘desktop replacement’–in fact, I’m not even sure it counts as a laptop, as ‘laptop’ generally indicates some amount of portability.

The HDX weighs in at an astounding 15.5 pounds and boasts a 20.1″ LCD display. If you’re looking for something you can fold up and take into a different room if needed, but that can be used sans an external display and hold its own against the bigger rigs, you may very well want to give the Dragon HDX a shot.

The screen has a resolution of 1680×1250 (WSXGA), and the system features a built-in HDTV tuner card, an HDMI port, Altec Lansing speakers + an integrated subwoofer, and the coolest feature? A pop-out remote that snaps into a slot next to the keyboard.

Battalion 101 CZ-9 Ultra – Starting at $709

Finally, not everyone wants a huge, hulking, expensive gaming laptop. Maybe you’ve already got a desktop system set up and you just want something for those times you feel like venturing outside. Or, maybe, you just can’t justify spending thousands of dollars on a laptop. If that’s the case, give the Battalion 101 CZ-9 Ultra a second look. With a starting price of just $709, you can slowing add the features you need while keeping the price as low as possible.

This laptop is lower-priced because, a) it doesn’t have a very pretty, fancy, sexy case. It’s basic silver; shiny, with rounded edges and a silver keyboard. The second reason is the screen–it’s 15.4″, but maxes out at WSXGA (1680×1050).

At it’s base price, it features a 2GHz Intel T5800 processor, a display with 1280×800 resolution, 2GB of RAM, a 512MB Mobility NVIDIA GeForce GO 9600M, a 250GB Serial-ATA 5400rpm HDD, an 8x Dual format DVD/CD writer, Premium surround sound, 56k modem, and 10/100/1000 Network LAN.

It’s simply because the game is too damn buggy and the FPS is not good too. I’m a big GTA fan, I had pre ordered GTA IV after looking into the reviews. The console version reviews were amazing which simply dragged me to purchase the PC version. But unfortunately it was a different story after getting the game. The moment I got the game I installed it and when I started the game to my surprise I could see only my car and no environments. It was a severe problem of missing textures. I was really disappointed by this. I started searching over the web for fixes and found many of them which made my game finally fully playable. I thought I’ll sum up all the fixes into a single place so that it will be easy for you to try them out. So here they are:

1. Drivers, Patches:
The first thing that you need to make sure is that your drivers are up to date. Make sure you get the latest version of Nvidia or ATI drivers. While installing the new version make sure you remove the older one completely by using a program like Driver Cleaner.

As far as patches are concerned, Rockstar has released twopatches so far which fixed several issues. You can download them below

GTA IV Patch 1

GTA IV Patch 2

GTA IV Patch 3

GTA IV Patch 4

GTA IV Patch 5

GTA IV Patch 6

GTA IV Patch 7

2. Vista SuperFetch Feature:
There’s a feature known as Superfetch in Vista. Some users disable it to speed up computer. But if it’s disabled you will experience missing textures in GTA IV. Weird but true! To enable or disable Vista superfetch follow the below instructions carefully:
Go to Start, in the search bar type ‘services’ and hit enter.
Now search for ‘Superfetch’. Double click on it, a box will popup, here you can enable and disable it. Once done press OK and close the box.

Some of you might be having awesome computers with good configurations. Having good configurations tempts anyone to play latest games. Well, you can take my example, recently I got a new system, I spent a lot on it as in my country hardware is pretty expensive if you compare to US or any other foreign country. I bought around 10 games this month and I have been gaming for around 5 hours every day. Luckily my holidays have almost come to an end, and so will my gaming craziness will come to an end too.

But I had one problem- my cousins, those kids used to always come and start fiddling with my computer and play games for long hours and I couldn’t say anything. Moreover I had some games like Deadspace installed which are under 18 games, you might be knowing about it but my cousins didn’t know. I wished I would have a game locking software which could lock the game exe’s. Unfortunately at that time I didn’t get one but I certainly did get one today.

Game Protector is a small software which allows you to password protect any executable that you select, it maybe a game or a program. It’s extremely user friendly. All you need to do is start it, browse the game executable and enter a password for it. You can also change the icon of executable to make it look like a program instead of a game. You can also rename the executable. Make sure you create a backup of the file, once done, you can now click on protect. Now if anyone launches the protected file, a password box will pop up. You need to enter the right password to start it.

Ahh now I don’t need to worry about kids playing games on my pc. If you liked this software you might also consider checking out CD/ DVD drive locking software, it locks your CD/ DVD and disables it from opening even when the button is pressed.

Download Game Protector

I know most of you Half-Life fans are eagerly waiting for an Episode three. Looks like Lombardi just let the cat out of the bag. Well, it’s not really a cat but just a kitten. Here’s a brief segment of the recent interview with Doug Lombardi posted on Kikizo. Actually, it’s nothing much, but at least now we have a rough idea of when they plan to offer in the game. Here’s the word:

Kikizo: When are we going to start to hear about Episode Three? Because the gaps seem to be quite long based on the first couple of episodes.

Lombardi: Yeah, the next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between HL2 to Ep1, and Ep1 to Ep2.

Kikizo: Won’t you announce or show anything on Episode 3 this year?

Lombardi: We may at the very end of the year.

Hmm, that’s another 2 months. I don’t mind waiting. We might just see a Christmas surprise. But there’s not much info about the Episode anywhere. I just hope they don’t release it next year end.
