The development and innovation of technology has been a revolutionising force in all facets of business, education and entertainment. However, in 2010 the iPad was launched and it quickly became one of the most demanded consumer devices, with about 8 million units sold in the first few months. A year later the new and improved iPad 2 was introduced, boasting a slimmer and lighter device as well as increased memory and a more powerful operating system. With the availability of several medical applications, one of the industries that have seen an increase in the use of the iPad is healthcare. The impact that the iPad has had in medicine are many and they have led to more efficient and functional patient care.

Widespread use of the iPad in medicine

Since its recent introduction to the market, the iPad has had a tremendous impact in medicine with studies showing that the usage by medical practitioners increased by about 20%. The iPad is also adopted in many areas of medicine, including orthopaedics, cosmetic dentistry and radiology. The use of the iPad has led to changes in how the medical team and the patients interact, how medical records and information are processed and how physicians and medical facilities can better improve patient care. In addition, many medical schools have opted to have their students use iPads as a part of their training.

Some of the benefits of using the iPad in medicine include:

Providing medical practitioners with a more user-friendly and organised system of recording and retrieving information and records, resulting in simpler patient care.

Having easy access to several medical applications such as drugs, anatomy, patient care, reference dictionary and diagnosing cases, writing prescriptions and helping doctors to be more accurate with their diagnosis.

Being able to easily read results such as X-rays, diagnostic images and MRI’s because of superior quality display screens.

Providing versatility to medical care and improved communication with staff since the iPad that is placed at the patients’ bed may be used by many levels of medical practitioners.

Having an efficient and effective device to engage patients while you educate them and explain their medical issues and treatment

Entertaining patients while they wait in the exam room.

Having a simple and easy to use device that provides a shorter learning curve since many doctors already use smartphones.

Getting longer battery life and avoiding the need to have the iPad plugged into an AC adapter. Having a practical device that is light and easy to transport.

Notwithstanding the positive impact of the iPad on medicine, there are a few drawbacks to note. There is no mouse and the touch screen device may affect the speed and accuracy of inputting data. In addition, there are no capabilities to use flash videos in order to interface with the internet and earlier versions do not have a camera. Other concerns relate to its durability and keeping the iPad contamination-free.

There is no doubt that the iPad has had an impact in medicine and there is increasing growth in its usage by healthcare administrators, practitioners, students and educators. With its cost effectiveness, portability and accessibility features, the iPad has simplified and improved how medicine and patient care is administered. However, with technology evolving ever so quickly, there is anticipation for new developments that may further improve how the iPad impacts medicine.

Since the very launch of iPhone 4, I have seen many people asking the question, “Can I use a normal SIM in an iPhone 4?” The simple answer for this question is ‘no’ but the truth is you can actually use a normal SIM card but in some tricky ways. There are two ways how you can do this.

Making a Micro SIM or a mini SIM card out of the normal SIM:

The iPhone 4 features a SIM card slot that only allows you to insert a micro SIM card which simply means that you cannot insert a normal sized SIM card into the slot. But, if you cut the normal SIM card into a Micro SIM then you can use it. Now, you might be wondering if this is complicated. The answer is No! Anyone can cut a normal SIM into a micro SIM card with ease. All you need to do is get a SIM card cutter and cut the SIM into a mini card. With the release of iPhone 4 into the market, the SIM card cutters have become really popular. You can find one on Amazon or eBay with ease if you search for ‘sim card cutter’.

But, before you can the SIM card make sure you make a note of the SIM card code that is behind the SIM as shown above. You may require this code in future.

Using Dual SIM cards in iPhone 4:

Another way to use a normal SIM card is by using a dual SIM adapter for iPhone 4. The dual SIM card adapter allows you to use a normal SIM card along with the Micro SIM. This method is a little bit expensive costing you around £20 compared to a simple cutter. But, it allows you to use dual SIMs which is certainly great.

You need to plant a thin strip over the micro SIM which goes in the tray and on the other end of the strip you can insert a normal SIM card. The strip with the normal SIM card can be folded backwards and kept safely in a second case. If you are interested in getting on you can grab one from here.

Apple keeps introducing new products every now and then. The best example is the iPhone. It has already released four iPhone’s in the past four years and is going to release a new one this year. With new interesting and eye candy features in the newer version we are easily tempted to buy it. I had purchased an iPhone 2G, the first generation of iPhone two years ago. Now, it’s pretty old but works like a charm. The only problem is it doesn’t support 3G and I cannot use most of the SIM cards that support 3G. This is certainly a serious drawback but apart from that I really love this phone. Last year I purchased an iPhone 4 and the old iPhone is of no use for me. I just want to sell it but I don’t really feel like selling it as I won’t get a good deal. I would rather keep it with me.

Today, while browsing I came across a website- Sellyourmac.com that buys second hand Apple products from you. It accepts Iphones, Mac books, iPads, Apple TV’s, Cinema Displays, etc. There’s a small form that you need to fill stating the product, its condition and the accessories that you are interested in selling. If the condition of the used product is good and you also have the box and accessories you are going to get a good price.

Well, if you have any old Apple product and you are interested in getting rid of it, then you should definitely try going to Sellyourmac.com. I cannot assure you that you may get a better price than eBay but you can surely avoid 15% PayPal/ eBay fees.

We all know that the iPad is a tablet! We can use it for listening to music, browsing internet, make notes, write emails, etc. But, how about doing these things in a unique way or bizarre way?

Reading a newspaper article:
Do you have any friend who is an iPad hater? Well, then here’s how you hide the eye candy appearance of the iPad by wrapping a newspaper around it and read a newspaper article. Here’s a picture of a foreign editor of a Japanese technology website using his iPad in a subway in Japan. Sounds, a bit puerile isn’t it?

How to make a TV out of iPad?
Jobless? Don’t own a television? But, you own an iPad, what can you do? Well, you grab a cartoon and make a TV for yourself. Here’s what this guy has done when he was jobless!

Protest using the iPad! Definitely the next gen way of protesting!
If you’re too lazy to write a signboard for a protest or shout loudly then why not use the iPad? All you need is a small stick to support the iPad! But, make sure the stick is strong enough to hold the iPad or else you might end up breaking your iPad into tiny bits!

Transform your car into an iPad Heaven!
Ok, so how these guys used their iPad with their cars is absolutely not eccentric but awe-inspiring! You should definitely see these videos.

The guy who turned his SUV into iPad heaven

Ever since we have seen the green robot in the mobile world, a new war has begun between Android and iPhone users. Many Android users claim that Android is far better than the iPhone OS. It may be better on certain grounds but iPhone still remains the king in its kind. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to get flamed for writing this but that’s alright! You can do that after I finish with what I have to say. So, why is the iPhone better than an Android phone at the moment?

Stability and Reliability:
The iPhone OS4 on the iPhone 4 is very stable and reliable. You hardly see it freeze or crash. I’m not saying that Android is unreliable or not stable but it does freeze sometimes. I have seen the latest version of Android, i.e; Gingerbread freezing! I’m pretty sure you too might have come across this. You also get annoying error messages that pop up randomly in Android. This is really annoying.

I launched the Talking Tom app both on the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S. And, guess what? The app on Samsung Galaxy S was not as smooth as on the iPhone 4. Also, it took more time to open and close than the iPhone.

The Mac Feel: Highly responsive and Easy to Use:
The iPhone OS has the unique Mac OS feel. It is very eye candy and highly responsive. I haven’t seen any Android phone till date that’s as fast and responsive as the iPhone. Moreover, when it comes to looks, Android is nowhere closer to the iPhone OS. For a new user, iPhone is much easier to operate than an Android phone. Lastly, the Retina display in the iPhone makes it crystal clear unlike any other phone.

The Powerful App Store!
The App Store has everything you need for the iPhone. All the apps you need are available at one place. But, this is not the same case with Android. Android has its apps spread over markets. And, there is no one place where you can browse all the Android apps. Moreover, the apps on the App store are much more reliable as they are subject to strict app approval procedure by Apple. The Apps that you see on Android are mostly rip offs from the App store and moreover they don’t seem to be so polished as the iPhone apps.

As of Jan 22, the App store had 400,000 apps and according to macrumors.com, App Store reached 10 billion downloads since its inception in 2008!

Music, Photos and Media:
We all know the iPhone/ iPod for its amazing music player. There’s nothing till date that actually comes close to the music player. Even though iTunes is a bit complicating for a new user, he finds it easier and convenient that other media players once he gets used to it. Also, Apple iPhone also provides a much cleaner and better photo-viewing experience than any other similar Android products. The iPad can be taken as the best example.

One can easily buy and rent TV shows and movies straight from the devices through iTunes. But, this isn’t easy on the Android as there is no stand-out source for video rentals and purchases. This makes an Android phone look like a poor choice if you’re interested in videos.

Security:
Security is a major concern these days when it comes to computers and mobile phones. Well, we all know that both the iOS and Android have some vulnerability. But, we haven’t heard of any particularly damaging attacks. Whatever may be the case, it is clear that the iPhone has “taller castle walls” and appears to be stronger and defensive.

Multimedia docking and charging stations:
If you’re planning to buy a speaker charging dock for your Android phone then I wish you good luck in finding one! Even, if you do find one, I’m pretty sure that the pricing is going to be really high. The micro-HDMI support in Android is certainly great, but unfortunately there are hardly any multimedia charging and docking stations for Android phones to choose from.

I’m not saying iPhone is the best but I would definitely say that it is better than Android. Android and iPhone OS are not the same! They are two different things. I would say that Android is for hackers, geeks and techie people who like to customize every bit of their phone. But, iPhone is for people are interested in music, videos, gaming, style and simplicity. Anyone begs to differ?

I strongly believe that iPhone is incomplete without jailbreaking it. I’m pretty sure you’ll agree on this point if you are aware of the potential of an iPhone after jailbreak. Most of the iPhone users updated their firmware to 4.1 as there were significant changes in the update and several bug fixes. Well, if you have updated your phone and you badly wanna jailbreak it then at present the only option is to downgrade the firmware to 4.0.1 and jailbreak it. But, this is possible only if you created a backup of your SHSH. You can downgrade your iPhone 4/3GS and iPod Touch 2G/3G using this method and then jailbreak it.

For detailed instructions on how to do so, have a look at the below video by jailbreakmatrix:

iPhone is undoubtedly one of the sexy gadgets at present. We have already seen three generations of the Apple iPhone. The third generation was simply amazing but the second one was a bit overpriced as the features were the same as the old one. Well, now everyone’s waiting for the fourth generation iPhone also known as iPhone 4G and iPhone HD. Well, there have been several images of this phone over the web. No one knows whether they are real or fake.

Some iPhone HD pics emerged on Engadget today. The shocking part was that the phone in the images appeared to be a bar phone. I believe they aren’t real. I don’t think Apply will give up the iPhone eyecandy look. But, Engadget confirmed that the design is the real one and we’ll get to know more about it soon. They even said that the pics were mostly from the Apple testbed.

Most probably, the phone will feature a higher screen resolution, a front-facing camera, storage upto 80 GB!, a higher resolution camera with flash, MicroSIM cards support.

Worried about your son watching porn or storing porn in his computer? Then don’t you worry. There’s a small USB stick known as Porn Detection Stick which scans for pornographic images in a computer.

The Porn Detection Stick is a pen drive that scans all the images stored on a computer hard disk. Once the files are scanned, it creates a report of all the suspected pornographic images. It is pretty easy to use, all you need to do is simple plug in the drive and then run the scan with the software.

I was wondering how it actually works. I thought that it would simply scan the file names and show suspicious files. But, that’s not true. It features advanced image analyzing algorithms that categorize images as potentially harmful by identifying facial features, flesh tone colors, image backgrounds, body part shapes, etc.

If you’re interested in buying one then it will cost you about $100.

Stuck Pixels and dead pixels are annoying. Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t provide support to fix Stuck or Dead pixel issues. If you are frustrated with such a problem then here’s a quick solution that you can try out.

I came across a Stuck pixel fixer developed by a guy on PSP-vault. So how does it work? It continuously flashes Green, Blue & Red colors on the screen to fix any stuck pixels.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Here’s what the developer has to say:

It has worked around 60% of the time. I tried it on my friends, that had 6 stuck pixels, and it fixed them all. The only real thing you can do is set the video to repeat and leave it on for a few hours. In version 2.0, I have added a white screen and a black screen, so you can periodically check to see if your pixels have been fixed. Good Luck with it to all of you.

Apple released an updated version of the 3.0 firmware which fixes a serious SMS bug which can remotely control the person’s iPhone. According to Apple, the vulnerability was “Receiving a maliciously crafted SMS message may lead to an unexpected service interruption or arbitrary code execution”.

Here’s a guide to help you update and jailbreak your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS. You can also unlock your iPhone 2G. Lemme try to keep the post short so that’s easy to understand.

Stuff you need:
Redsn0w for Windows (version 0.7.2, version 0.8)
Redsn0w for Mac (version 0.8, version 0.7.2)
iTunes 8.2.1
iPhone 3.0 Firmware (For iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS)

Firstly, download the latest version of iTunes and update your iPhone to 3.0.1 firmware.

Once done, download Redsn0w from the above links and run it. Browse to the Original iPhone firmware OS 3.0 .ipsw file for your iPhone. Check the links above to download it.
Redsn0w will now verify the firmware. Once done, click on ‘Next’. The patching procedure will now start.

Now, Click on ‘Install Cydia’. Make sure you don’t check ‘Icy’ and ‘Unlock’ for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. You can also click ‘Unlock’ for iPhone 2G.

Make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click ‘Next‘.

Now, the iPhone needs to enter into DFU mode. Put your phone in DFU mode by using screen instructions. (Hold the power and home button simultaneously and connect the cable. You need to hold them for 10 secs and then release the power button while holding the home button. Hold until the phone enters into DFU mode.)

Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 3.0.1. To check whether your iPhone has been updated to 3.0.1, simply navigate to Settings> General> About. Check the iPhone OS version: It should be 3.0.1 (7A400).

NOTE: If you experience problems while jailbreaking iPhone 2G and 3G then try using Redsnow 0.7. The 0.8 version is specially meant for the iPhone 3GS. The reason why we don’t choose 3.0.1 in Redsn0w is that it won’t recognize.

Homer Simpson said, “Homer no function beer well without, I need a bottle opener!” Oh Well! Homer Simpson I couldn’t find a beer opener for you but will a corkscrew do the job? Ok jokes apart! Here’s a Homer Simpson Corkscrew that I came across while searching for some cool stuff over the web.

Using the Homer Simpson Corkscrew you can open a wine bottle and share some light humor with your pals. To open the bottle you need to make Homer stand on top of the bottle and turn his head to twist the screw into the cork. Then, simply push Homer’s arms down to release the cork from the bottle. This will open your bottle and will also work as a small exercise for lazy Homer.

The Home Simpson Corkscrew is priced at about $20. If you are interested in getting one then you can get one from here.
