How to Fix Task Manager Has Been Disabled Error

Sometimes when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del key you might have come across an error saying “Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator”. This happens mainly due to malware or spyware present in your computer. The malware or spyware puts certain registry restrictions which disables the task manager. This is mainly done is order to prevent the user from tracing and removing the spyware or malware from system startup.

How to fix the “task manager has been disabled by your administrator” error?
This error can be really annoying at times. But don’t you worry! You can get rid of this error using any one of the following methods.

Method 1: Using the Group Policy Editor:

Go to Start> Run> type gpedit.msc and click OK.
Navigate to:
User Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options / Remove Task Manager

Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.

Set the policy to Not Configured.

Method 2: Using the Windows Registry Editor

Go to Start> Run> type regedit.exe and hit Enter

Now Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies\ System

On the right hand side, find and delete the value named DisableTaskMgr

Close the Windows registry editor and reboot you computer for the changes to take effect.

Method 3: Using the Command Prompt:

Click “Start > Run” and type the following command exactly as given below and click OK.
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Other Alternatives: (The easy way)

If you are not familiar with registry editing and stuff then you can download and extract the disabledtaskmanagerfix.rar and double click on DisabledTaskManager.reg to merge the registry values into the Windows registry. This will fix the error in Windows Vista as well as XP.

If nothing works you may try out a third party program called HijackThis. It examines vulnerable or suspect parts of your system, such as browser helper objects and certain types of Registry keys.
