How to get Quick Launch Toolbar in Windows 7

If you tried out Windows 7 you might have noticed that the good old quick launch bar that you used to have in the Windows versions prior to Windows 7 is no longer visible. Unfortunately the quick launch toolbar is not only disabled by default in Windows 7, but it’s actually missing from the list of toolbars. The reason? Well, it’s pretty obvious, the concept of having a set of pinned shortcut icons is now integrated directly into the new taskbar.

Most of us liked this new concept of placing shortcuts in the taskbar. But some of us were looking forward towards getting the quick launch bar back. Well, if you’re one among them then here’s how you get it back:

Firstly, right-click on the taskbar and choose Toolbars / New Toolbar

Now, in the folder selection dialog, enter the following string and press OK:

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Turn off the “lock the taskbar” setting, and right-click on the divider. Make sure that “Show text” and “Show title” are disabled and the view is set to “small icons”.

Use the dividers to rearrange the toolbar ordering to choice, and then lock the taskbar again.

Thank you! I was about ready to scrape win 7 and go back to XP because of the missing quicklaunch.
