How to Fix GTA IV PC Version

I know there are many GTA fans out there who were disappointed with the release of GTA IV on PC. Well, the reason? It’s simply because the game is too damn buggy and the FPS is not good too. I’m a big GTA fan, I had pre ordered GTA IV after looking into the reviews. The console version reviews were amazing which simply dragged me to purchase the PC version. But unfortunately it was a different story after getting the game. The moment I got the game I installed it and when I started the game to my surprise I could see only my car and no environments. It was a severe problem of missing textures. I was really disappointed by this. I started searching over the web for fixes and found many of them which made my game finally fully playable. I thought I’ll sum up all the fixes into a single place so that it will be easy for you to try them out. So here they are:

Textures missing!

1. Drivers, Patches:
The first thing that you need to make sure is that your drivers are up to date. Make sure you get the latest version of Nvidia or ATI drivers. While installing the new version make sure you remove the older one completely by using a program like Driver Cleaner.

As far as patches are concerned, Rockstar has released twopatches so far which fixed several issues. You can download them below

2. Vista SuperFetch Feature:
There’s a feature known as Superfetch in Vista. Some users disable it to speed up computer. But if it’s disabled you will experience missing textures in GTA IV. Weird but true! To enable or disable Vista superfetch follow the below instructions carefully:
Go to Start, in the search bar type ‘services’ and hit enter.
Now search for ‘Superfetch’. Double click on it, a box will popup, here you can enable and disable it. Once done press OK and close the box.

    recently i got gta 4 n installed the game.the game game runs on my pc well enough.but my problem is after the 2nd small island all the game texture are totally disable.except the cars n the trees are visible.whenever i try to go over those points every thing fall down except the helicopter. I can fly through the places but never can land. what is the solution for that.I complete all the previous versions.but this is new. my pc config is (win service pac 3c2d 2.8 processor,4 gb ram,nvidia 5300 pci graphic card)…… I will be very great full if i get the solution for this problem.

    ok for all you guys who have the missing textures problem….all you have to is google gta 4 missing textures ..i downloaded the 1.0.3.0 patch and the textures are back..you can also install cachebooster……it helps ………….

    ok now for the lag problem- ok first create a new text document-then in that paste the following:

    -norestriction
    -nomemrestrict
    -availablevidmem 2
    -percentvidmem 100

    ok now in the place of available vid mem,you can type more than 2,depending on your ram…..mine is 1gb so 2 gb…what it basically does is tht the game thnks tht it has vidmem of 2..so better performance…….

    ok after this you can even instal game booster……it frees yp a part of your ram…..

    oh i forgot to tell that you have to name the text document as commandline…… and dont name it as commandline.txt…….it doesnt work then…………

    i got prop with my gta 4. everythig run smooth no lag or anything but where my game lag is when i use my keys 2 move. when i run forward nothing rong but as soon i press 2 turn left on my keyboard the game give short lag then work smoth again. it happens every time if i turn. so what can be the prop be there.?

    Installing GTA4 on windows 7 is not working out, the environment is not showing up. Graphics is not working. I am using integrated intel graphics media accelerator(2xdvi ports). I think I need a nvidia or ati video card. Does anyone know anything that could help me? Thanks!!!

    I’ve been a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto games since I was 8, I’m 18 now and my English is honestly self taught by Grand Theft Auto games(I asked my 4th Grade English teacher what a Blowjob is(A mission for the Rednecks in GTA 2 xD) and she kicked me out LOL.
    I have Grand Theft Auto – Episodes Of Liberty City on my PC, Its specifications are :

    Dual Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz
    2.52GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
    Video Card – NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GS(Though, When I ran a Benchmark Test on EFLC it showed that I have GeForce 9600 GT =/)
    Windows XP SP3

    Its a somewhat of a new PC, I purchased it last year in March, I am from Israel so the PC RAM and processors are not that good compared to US products but its suitable.

    When I first played the game, I ran a Benchmark Test and it showed that I have a 4.86 FPS rate, After some tweaking of my PC I was able to get it up to 6.72 FPS, I used your advices and now its 9.80 FPS, I am still afraid it might slowdown on me in the middle of the game, is my FPS good enough for that slowdown bug to reappear ?     i hav 2.3 dual core amd,4250 ati graphics wit 4 gb ram,bt gameplay spins suddenly n i hav 2 wait 4 a min or two n da game play gets slow on daytime,help:(

    but when i starts gta iv ,only my car is visible and there is nothing else .
    there is a huge problem with the textures

    i want to fuck rockstar for this buggy laggy fucking game
    frist about 2 years ago i bought the game but it didn’t work on my laptop i don’t remember the model but spec was this, i think so
    asus intel 1.8 dual core 1m cache -2g 800mhz – ati 3470 i’m not sure but vram was 256m
    i sold this & bought dell inspiron 1564. the game still sucks & now i totally upgraded my old pc (actually i bought a new one. even keyboard & mouse is changed)
    amd phenom 2 965 black edition 3.4Ghz
    4 gb 1333mhz ram
    ati 5770 1gb ddr5
    the fucking game is still running laggy, game runs smooth when i’m on foot even with highest settings, but in car everything is good until i press a key the screen freezes for a second & then runs normal with 60fps! i changed the settings to low but nothings changed

    I have a VERY diffrent problem.
    Every time I try to start GTA IV, it crashes and it wont open up the game at all! I’ve contacted RSG about this today, but I can’t wait.
    Do you know what the problem could be???

    I first run GTA IV on my pc with several lag problems like laging and
    screen freezing after I pressed a button, but I fixed it easily with the
    latest patch 1.0.7.0. then the game became playable, even with the
    graphic sets at maximum. Benchmark test showed me around 55.4 fps
    and everything looked fine… BUT…
    The game started lag again after 10 – 20 minutes, not from pressing
    any key from keyboard like before, but all the time!
    I searched all the web for sollutions but I couldn’ find any, I have the
    latest drivers on my video card installed, the latest patch from the
    game like I said before, I disabled win log viewer & collect, I tried
    so many “fixes” but nothing fixed the lag.
    I have a Phenom II X4 955, 4 GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB,
    running Windows 7 Ultimate. Perchaps the pc version of GTA IV is
    trash, I wonder why Rockstar tricked the buyers like that selling a
    game with lots of problems. Anyone found a sollution for the lag after
    10 – 20 minutes PLZ leave a comment

    Hey!!GTA4 lags on my PC. Does not gives more than 11fps. I have downloaded and installed all the patches for GTA4, installed the latest drivers for the PC, tried the commandline(not perfectly as i guess)…But it still lags. My PC config(everything running at stock speed) :

    AMD Phenom X2 3.1Ghz
    2GB DDR3
    XFX HD5450 1GB

    OK I followed the steps above, but I have a problem, a math problem: At step 3: ,,It’s time to do a little math now. Just DIVIDE THE FIRST NUMBER BY THE SECOND ONE, you should get something like 0.5, 0.8.., etc. Make a note of it.” Which Number? Where do I look for this numbers to divide them?

    Does someone knows, how I can reset all settings in GTA IV? I mean all settings! By deleting files in documents and %APPDATA% does not reset all settings.

    just switch your 3d settings to high performance mode and kaching!! In my pc it runs for about 27 fps
