Here are a few points that you should keep in mind for increasing the battery life of your iPod:
Do not let your Battery Drain Completely:
The first thing you need to make sure is that you let the battery discharge completely. Recharge before it gets fully empty. This is really important as it increases the life of your battery. So, even if you aren’t using you iPod make sure you don’t dump it somewhere in your house; recharge the battery once a while.

Reducing the burden on your battery:
Turning off the backlight:
Backlight consumes a lot of battery; hence it’s good to use it for the least essential time. You can minimize the use of backlight or turn it off completely by going to settings. If the backlight is set to ‘Always On’ then it will consume a lot of battery.
Usage of playlists and albums:
You should avoid jumping from one track to another; instead you can use playlists and albums to play the songs. This minimizes the time for which the hard disk spins and hence the battery consumption is reduced. But when you jump from one track to another, the battery usage increases as the hard disk has to spin in order to access the song.
Preferred File formats- AAC or MP3:
AAC or MP3 files are compressed and the iPod can use its cache effectively when you use these files, as a result the hard disk has to work less and consumes less battery. It is better to avoid WAV files and AIFF files as they aren’t compressed and the iPod cannot use its cache effectively when you use these files.
